Saturday – October 4 - Emsworth

OK, I got it wrong,  there aren’t two October 4ths.

The weather looked OK first thing in the morning, but by the time we were up, dressed and breakfasted, it had turned a bit nasty.  Not a heavy rain, but cold, windy and wet enough to kill the idea of any outside activities.  Never fear, it is easy to keep Maxine amused when there is an outlet shopping mall nearby.  In part of Portsmouth where once was the Royal Navy Dockyard, they have build a modern complex with shops, flats and restaurants.  It even has a tower to ride up to see the sights of the Solent.  Named after the original use of the site, it is called Gun Wharf Quay.  One of the shops there is one of Maxine’s favorites, the Clarks shoe outlet.  She was very restrained, buying only three pairs (two at Clarks and onIMG_2860e at Ecco).   We also browsed the other shops, buying little and had really nice Cornish Pasties for lunch.  The afternoon as a leisurely sit around Sue’s house with conversation and a cup of tea.  Dinner was at another nice restaurant in  Emsworth, then we left and drove to our hotel at Heathrow.  With a 7:00am flight, we didn’t want to take the two hour drive in the morning.
